Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (Ages 3-5)
You are your child’s first teacher in the Catholic faith! Praying with your children, taking them to Mass and the Sacraments regularly, and being a good example to them are the most important ways to set them on the path to Meet, Know, Love and Serve Christ. At St. Charles Parish we hope to assist you in that vital role by praying with your children and teaching, discussing and reinforcing the traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church with them during our Child Formation Sessions.
For Preschool and Kindergarten (Ages 3-5), we are offering the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS), which is a Montessori-based religious education program. In CGS, children meet in a specially designed classroom (called an atrium) filled with miniature materials relating to the Mass, the Sacraments, and the Bible, that they enjoy working through at their own pace. The catechists leading each session have received extensive training to guide your child through this beautiful program where they not only are educated about the facts of their faith, but learn to love God and enjoy His presence and His gifts. In order to keep class sizes small (no more than ten children), we will be offering six different sessions each week:
• CGS I-A – Sunday Morning 8:45 am – 10:15 am
• CGS I-B – Sunday Morning 10:45 am – 12:15 pm
• CGS I-C – Wednesday Afternoon 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
• CGS I-D – Wednesday Evening 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
• CGS I-E – Thursday Afternoon 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
• CGS I-F – Thursday Evening 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
All of our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd sessions run for 1.5 hours, meet approximately 3 times each month and finish up before Easter. Our sessions start in October and are preceded by a parent orientation and two weeks of small group orientation sessions (each child will come for one half of one class during those two weeks).
