Instrumentalists

Parishioners who have performance knowledge of a particular instrument (guitar, strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion, or keyboard), especially parish children, are highly encouraged to participate in our liturgies by offering their talents to the parish, whether it be on a regular basis or just for special celebrations. Instrumental meditations and preludes offer a wonderful opportunity for prayer and reflection for both the musician and the congregation. New instrumentalists are always welcome!

FAQs

  • What is the time commitment for instrumentalists?
    • In general, instrumentalists should spend an hour or two in preparation for serving at Mass.  At least one rehearsal with Dr. Mathews is required prior to serving at Mass.

  • Do I have to be able to read music?
    • No.  Although the ability to read music is helpful for joining any of our ensembles, it is not a requirement.  Several current members are unable to read music, but they learn by ear.  We will teach you some basic music reading skills.

  • Where are rehearsals located? What are the rehearsal times?
    • Rehearsals take place in the church.  Before serving at Mass, warm-ups occur in the music offices, with the exception of the praise groups and the bell choir.  Please see each group's individual page for rehearsal times.
