Candlemas 2023

Candlemas - February 2

Part of the ancient tradition of the Church is to celebrate "Candlemas," which occurs on February 2, forty days after Christmas. This day, also known as the Presentation of the Lord, commemorates Jesus being presented to God at the Temple forty days after his birth, according to the law of Moses. Christians consider Jesus to be the "light of the world." This belief is reinforced by the proclamation of Simeon, who took the infant Jesus in his arms and proclaimed that the child would be "a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel" (Luke 2:32).

This year to celebrate Candlemas, all parishioners are invited to bring candles that they wish to have blessed to the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Thursday, February 2. Parishioners are encouraged to use these blessed candles in their homes as reminders of Christ's presence in their lives.
